Sharon-Lise Normand, PhD, collaborated with colleagues from Yale University and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association called “Reduction in Acute Myocardial Infarction Mortality in the United States.” The researchers found that between 1995 and 2006, the risk-standardized mortality rates (RSMRs) for patients admitted with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) revealed a noticeable and significant decline, as did between-hospital variation. “This finding may reflect the success of the many individuals and organizations dedicated to improving care during this period.” For a complete understanding of the study, please visit JAMA’s website.Â
