HCP professors Richard G. Frank, PhD, and Thomas G. McGuire, PhD, shared the Fourteenth Annual Health Care Research Award from the National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM). NIHCM is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of America’s health care system. The organization sponsors the award “to encourage outstanding work from researchers furthering innovation in healthcare policy and management.”

Frank was honored for his article, coauthored with Richard Zeckhauser, “Custom-Made Versus Ready-to-Wear Treatments: Behavioral Propensities in Physicians’ Choices,” published in the Journal of Health Economics. NIHCM honored McGuire for his paper, coauthored with Randall Ellis, “Predictability and Predictiveness in Health Care Spending,” also published in the Journal of Health Economics.

Frank’s and McGuire’s articles were two of the five finalists for the research award. An article by HCP Associate Professor David C. Grabowski, PhD, “Medicare and Medicaid: Conflicting Incentives for Long-Term Care,” published in the Milbank Quarterly, was also one of the finalists.
