John Z. Ayanian, MD, MPP, an associate professor of health care policy at HCP, was recently awarded the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award for his years of dedication to sponsoring, encouraging, and supporting the career and personal development of many successful individuals in the field. Over the past decade, Ayanian has served as a primary research mentor for some 20 fellows, residents, and MD and PhD students, as well as five HMS junior faculty for their career development awards. The mentoring award, given by the HMS Office for Diversity and Community Partnership, is a testimony to Ayanian’s importance in the lives of these individuals. Presenting the award was Nancy Keating, MD, MPH, an assistant professor of health care policy at HCP, for whom Ayanian served as both primary research mentor and career development award mentor.
