Core
Areas
The UPR/CHA Exploratory EXPORT Center is organized into
five core areas and two pilot projects.
Administrative Core consists of an
Executive Committee, a Community Advisory Committee,
and a Planning/Evaluation Committee that provides programmatic,
fiscal, and operational oversight of all components
of the Center.
Research Core is jointly directed by
Barbara Dickey (CHA) and José Rodríguez
Santana (UPR). The overall goals are to develop and
test patient, provider, and system incentives in order
to enhance the engagement of Latino patients in treatment
for depression and the adherence and outcomes among
children with asthma
Community Core is jointly directed
by Delia Camacho (UPR) and Norah Mulvaney-Day (CHA).
This core works with target communities to develop new
and innovative interventions to bring clients into treatment
and to improve service delivery. The community coalitions
include The Puerto Rico National Centers for Excellence
in Women's Health; the Puerto Rico Asthma Coalition;
the Cambridge Public School System; and Roca Inc., a
community-based organization located in Chelsea Massachusetts
focused on youth and young adult programs.

Training Core
is jointly directed by Guillermo Bernal (UPR) and Richard
Frank (HMS). The key activities of this Core are to
foster development of minority researchers, provide
individualized training experiences, and coordinate
mentoring.
Shared Resources Core, jointly directed
by Sharon-Lise Normand (HMS) and Norma Ware (HMS), provides
methodological support for design, analysis, and interpretation
of data for qualitative research; overseas instrumentation;
and facilitates the implementation of research and training
goals.
Pilot Projects are conducted
by the Center's junior faculty. One is designed to improve
the process of bringing Latino men with depression into
treatment, and the other is designed to explore cultural
beliefs and practices about asthma.
