Shelly Greenfield, MD, MPH is an addiction psychiatrist and epidemiologist. She is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Medical Director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Ambulatory Treatment Program at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Dr. Greenfield's research interests include access and quality of health services for individuals with alcohol and drug problems, gender differences in substance use disorders, prevention of substance use disorders, and organization and effectiveness of treatments for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. She is the recipient of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's James A. Shannon Director's Award and the Harvard Medical School's Scholars in Medicine Award which have supported her research in recovery from alcohol dependence. As a member of the Sloan Center on Managed Care she has provided consultation for a number of projects investigating the organization of mental health services for individuals with depression and other psychiatric disorders. She is the current recipient of a career development award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for her work on health services utilization among individuals with drug use disorders. Dr. Greenfield served as the first Scientific Director of the National Alcohol Screening Day and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association's Council on Addiction.
